Building Aurora's Future, August 2

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

I am happy to announce that our organization, Africa Agenda has been selected to be the spot light non-profit that will help showcase this year’s Building Aurora’s Future. Building Aurora’s Future is in its second year and was started by Aurora City Council member Ryan Frazier as a way to bring together a community that “lives, works and plays together” This year, the focus is education and will involve back to school supply giveaways, a job fair, health fair, free haircuts, free food, free massage therapy, live music and much more. “The event is tailored to promote businesses in the area, provide a platform for organizations providing resources to the community and helping to prepare our children for the school year. The event will offer a complete 360° view on stabilizing home life” said event organizer Nneka Woulard of Wells Fargo Bank, NA. in a press release issued July 1.
For Africa Agenda, it is an opportunity to present our organization to the public, speak about what we are doing towards enhancing positive images of Africa and how this fits within our overall mission of media, education, development and democracy.
Africa Agenda is inviting everyone to come out and be part of this event.

Body by God Extreme Makeover 2

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Saturday August 26, I had the opportunity to attend a Body by God session hosted by Dr. Tim Cummins. Frankly speaking it was money well spent just sitting and listening to all the advise that was given about how we should live life to the fullest. The session included information about what kinds of food to eat and what not to eat, information about how to help eliminate all the toxins and chemicals around us and in the food that we eat. When we do these things, then our health will be better, then our minds will be purer and we will health life to the fullest. I enjoyed it and so did other participants at the meeting. Dr. Cummins is a chiropractor in Denver Colorado.

Cameroon: From Snail Mail to Hotmail.

It seems the glory days of Cameroon are just ahead. Put aside your partisan hat for a second and look at the realities over the last few years. It used to be that the government did not even have a website. We’ll, the major voice of the government, its radio and television organs are answering present on the internet. These communication tools have been there for a while now. It used to be that everything was slow and all you had were the old land lines, old voices, old stories of pride and prejudice.

Now the nation boasts of wireless communities and devices all over the place. It used to be that once you left Cameroon, there was no way you could catch up with favorites like Cameroon Calling, Dimanche Midi and your beloved TV and Radio shows. Now, you can listen to video and audio clips of news from CRTV online. Cameroon is not a perfect union and organization to say the least, most organizations have issues, but someone in Cameroon knows, deep in their heart, that if they don’t do this new media thing, the train will leave the entire nation behind. To me, that’s a step ahead instead of a step behind.

The Shock Doctrine

What are you reading this summer?
For summer 2008, I have picked up an interesting selection of best sellers and now simmering though some of them. I am a non-fiction type and focus more on the category of books that carry socio-economic or political bearings on the fabric of the current global landscape.

While watching Foreign Exchange on PBS the other day I stumbled on The Shock Doctrine:The Rise of Disaster capitalism by Canadian writer Naomi Klein. The interview between Naomi Klein and Daljit Dhaliwal was a powerful exchange which made me quickly rush to my local book store to obtain a copy of the book. The Shock Doctrine has been out for a while but with the current global energy crisis shifting into higher gears and with news that Israel or the US might lauch an attach against Iran, the basic concepts of the book have begun to gain new meaning.

The other books that I recommend are Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything by Don Tapscott and Anthony Williams and also Web 2.0: A Strategy Guide by Amy Shuen
